New Story Posting Tomorrow - TEASER!

I am writing a new story with the lovely shelikesthesound. It's called "When the Dust Settles", and we start posting tomorrow here. Below is a teaser from the first chapter as well as the chapter banner.

The fact that I was a goddamn jaded bastard meant that I skipped right past the shock that hit the others momentarily. I had been in similar situations before, and I barely needed to think before I started barking out orders.

I then registered two things at the same time. Jake had been hit in the neck and was bleeding on the floor. And Jones, who was driving the vehicle, had also been hit and was slumped over the steering wheel. He must still have had his foot on the gas, because the vehicle was moving. I yelled at Crowley to take over the driving before we ended up in a ditch and became a stationary target for the motherfuckers still shooting at us.

I was sure that Tyler Crowley did his best because that was the kind of man he was, but we did end up in the ditch. And just as I heard a chopper overhead coming to help us out of the mess we had ended up in, the world around me exploded.

Again my jadedness made me register something faster than should have been possible. Only this time I wasn’t sure I had wanted to know what was happening before everything went black. It was a fucking rotten last thought to have.

Early Morning Photography Trip

I got up at 3am to drive out to Kalø Castle and take pictures at sunrise. It was a really beautiful trip, and I need to find some new destinations to visit over the summer with my camera that early in the day.

The approximately 1 mile long cobbled way out to the castle.

Rifle and machinegun fire hammered relentlessly into the building until the rebels inside the Mendicity thought their heads might explode. It began to quiet down by Tuesday night, but the lull was an ominous one – it only meant that the soldiers outside were creeping closer. Edward could see them in the dusk from his post on the highest floor of the institution.

“Ammunition is running low,” McCarty said as he came up behind Edward. “Some of the lads are talking about trying to catch the grenades that the Brits have started throwing and throw them back out before they explode. It’s madness.”

Edward shrugged. “It might work. I saw someone do it at the GPO earlier.”

“Well, desperate times call for desperate measures,” McCarty allowed with a sigh. “Good thing the shoulder I dislocated last week was not the one attached to my throwing arm.”

Edward had a snappy comeback ready on the tip of his tongue, but he never uttered it as an unearthly scream pierced the night.

“Sweet Jesus…” McCarty muttered. “What was that?”

I turned around to see Bella, wide-eyed and with traces of tears on her cheeks.

“Where’s Mommy?”

I swallowed hard and held out my arms for her. She ran into them willingly, and I picked her up. She buried her face in my neck, and I held her as tight as I dared as I tried to make sense of what had just happened. Had my wife really just left me? Had my baby girl’s mother just walked out the door without even worrying about how her daughter would react? It was Bella’s birthday for god’s sake.

“Why did Mommy leave? Can I go with her?” Bella asked me in a whisper. “When is she coming back?”

“I don’t know, baby girl. I don’t know,” I answered hopelessly. “But Daddy’s here. He’s never leaving you. Never.”

“But I want Mommy!” she cried into my neck, and I felt tears sting in my own eyes.

I submitted a one shot for Fandoms Fight the Floods. It's called "Blow My Mind", and here is a teaser:



"You're beautiful," tumbled from his lips. And she was. She was gloriously beautiful to his eyes. Her cheeks were flushed, like his own, and her eyes shone with something that was new and exciting – desire for him. Her hair was shiny, her lips pouty and pink, and nothing had ever prepared him for the feeling of a warm body pressed against his own like hers was right then.
